The Machine took on the Rage Revolution this past Saturday in what is becomming a heated rivalry between two of the toughest teams in all of South Jersey. After jumping out to an early 1-0 lead, the Rage tied things up early in the second half, setting up for a thrilling final 15 minutes of play. The aggressiveness and physical play increased with every passing minute, until finally, a dangerous high kick left Michaela down and out. Concerned for their teammate's well being, most of the Machine players on the field took a knee - anticipating a whistle and stoppage of play from the referee. But it was a call that never came and the Rage players contiued their assault on a defensless Kathryn and scored the game winner with about 10 minutes left to play.
Despite the unfortunate outcome, there were many positives to take from Saturday's game. First, the Machine can hold their own against ANY team in the SJGSL. Second, the Machine plays tough every week, but no matter what transpires on the field, they never blame a referee for a loss. Third, and most importantly, they care more about the health and well being of their teammates than about the result of a soccer game - which is what I am most proud of.
Cinnaminson is next in the final game of the spring. Let's end on a positive note. GO MACHINE !!!!!!
The word of the day was "ATTACK". Knowing how skilled Morrestown was, I asked the girls to go on the attack from the opening whistle and take this game over - and did they ever. Despite being down two players, the Machine showed tremendous energy, stamina and determination and played their best "team game" of the season, coming away with a convincing 4-1 victory. Their communication, passing, positioning and teamwork were great to watch and the physicality we showed will go a long way as we continue to go up against bigger and stronger teams in the future. Every single girl played outstanding today - so much so that poor Michaela barely got a chance to touch the ball. No worries Mica - I promise I'll make it up to you !!! Happy Birthday Lily. I hope you all had a blast at the sleepover. The Rage is next - GO MACHINE !!!!!
